A Gathering Around Fishing, Music & Community

Dust off your cowboy boots, grab a gaucho shirt, and make plans to join us for a damn good time in the Lowcountry.
Something good is happening in Charleston.
The idea is pretty simple. Bring people together around the things that make this community special.
Music.
Art.
Conservation.
Good food and good drinks.
And a bunch of people who care about water and want to have a good time.
What intrigued me about what my friends at Soul Fly Co. are doing is that they’re trying to break down some of the barriers that can exist around fly fishing.
Let’s get real—fly fishing can feel a little intimidating from the outside.
Expensive gear. Technical language. Unspoken hierarchies. You get what I am saying.
The approach of Soul Fly Co. is the opposite of that.
They’re creating hands-on activities and experiences where someone who has fished their whole life and someone who has never picked up a rod can stand next to each other and have a good time.
There will be live music, artists displaying work, conservation groups sharing what they’re working on locally, and some fun fishing-related “games” designed to get people involved without the pressure of competition.

When it comes to Fly Fishing, what keeps people coming back is everything around the fishing.
The friendships.
The stories.
The shared meals.
The weird and wonderful community that forms around the water.
That’s really what Soul Fly Charleston seems to be about.
It reminds me a lot of why I started the Captains Collective and why Drifter Fish Club exists in the first place. People want good experiences, but more than that they want real connection.
If you’re anywhere near Charleston in May—or looking for an excuse to visit—it is worth checking out.
Even if you just stop by for a drink, listen to some music, and talk fishing with a few strangers.
Sometimes that’s where the best things start.
